Asmara Kaffer from Keetmanshoop is one of 15 individuals attending a 5-day workshop on how to tell better stories.

The “Story Telling Lab” organised by the consortium of DW Akademie, Namibia Media Trust and Institute of Public Policy Research, has brought together these individuals who represent nine organisations from across Namibia.

The organisations are Step Up Ark Foundation, SEE Namibia, Milli Trust, Omutumwa, Information Disorder/Disinformation Campaign, Equal Rights Namibia, Rural Rise, and Elan.

“I am here with Milli Trust, which is a media and information literacy learning initiative to facilitate young people on media and information literacy, and everything that has to do with how to access information and how to disseminate information,” says Asmara.

Asmara, who is a facilitator for Milli Trust, also serves as a youth officer for the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service in Keetmanshoop, has high expectations of the workshop.

“My expectations of this workshop, are to get some tips on how to tell better stories, some tips how to capture the audience that I will be telling stories to relating to this project which Milli Trust has taken on.”

With Asmara, is Farah Frederick who is also attending the workshop, representing Milli Trust. They have a campaign titled, “Access Namibia: Empowering Namibians Through Information”.

Asmara’s impression of the workshop is that it will help them a lot in implementing their campaign, and also in her work going forward.

“It’s gonna be very much useful, because for whoever I work with whether it is youth or old people when you narrate a story it is usually better if it captivates people’s attention,” she states.

“So, people get to better understand when I am telling them a story or when sharing with them information through telling a story that especially they can relate to.”

Asmara says that she will make the best use of this opportunity presented by the workshop.

The workshop taking place at the House of Democracy building in Windhoek West ends on Friday, the 23rd.
