Ondangwa Town Council has started with the construction of a new road which will ease the traffic congestion during busy days.

The new road will pass just in the front yards of the NORED offices and the still-under-construction building of GIPF, and runs down westward for a stretch of 1,3 kilometres.

Speaking at the ground-breaking event, Ondangwa’s chief executive officer Mr Ismael Namgongo said that the construction of the new road is part of the town’s five-year strategic plan.

“Lack of roads, lack of sporting facilities, and lack of leisure facilities are some of the issues identified in our strategic plan which came into operation in July 2023,” said Namgongo.

“Over the years we have seen the creation of leisure parks, the construction of roads and the building of houses; and all other things which are a result of our strategic plan.”

In a speech read on his behalf by town councillor Nicodemus Amadhila, town mayor Mr Paavo Amwele said that the construction of roads infrastructure remain a critical priority of the town council.

“Over the last five years the town council has consistently provided funds for road projects,” Amwele said. “Ondangwa has seen roads of bitumen standard being constructed across town, such as at Oluno Extension 1, Extension 16, Extension 24, Extension 25 and Extension 26.

“If you look around this town you can see development taking place.”

This new road which is being constructed by Alugodhi Construction, starting from August 2025 will be completed in March 2026, and will come at a cost of N$14,5 million.
