Joe Fades Cut, a growing SME in the grooming industry, has announced a new initiative aimed at empowering unemployed youth through professional barbering training.
The move marks a significant step beyond traditional grooming services, empowering and building the grooming (barbering) industry and contributing to skills development in Namibia.
Through the training programme, aspiring barbers are provided with both theoretical knowledge and practical training, equipping them with the expertise required to thrive in the competitive grooming industry.
Participants gain hands-on experience under skilled professionals, ensuring they develop not only technical abilities but also customer service and business management skills.
According to Joel Mwatilefu, Founder and Lead Barber at Joe Fades Cut, “The initiative currently has five trainees, and is being implemented in partnership with 4×4 Initiative, which is a mentorship-focused programme empowering boys and men through education.
“This collaboration strengthens the programme’s impact and reach. Together, we are committed to creating meaningful opportunities for young people, enabling them to build sustainable careers and contribute positively to the economy.”
Mwatilefu added that “The programme reflects a shared vision of empowering youth while simultaneously elevating standards within the grooming sector. By producing well-trained and qualified barbers, we are helping to professionalize the industry and ensure that customers receive high-quality services.”
Mwatilefu concluded by highlighting the importance of investing in people to drive long-term growth.
“We believe that skills development is key to unlocking potential. By training young people, we are not only changing lives but also shaping the future of the grooming industry.”
As youth unemployment remains a pressing challenge, initiatives like this demonstrate how SMEs can play a vital role in driving change, fostering entrepreneurship, and building a skilled workforce.
Kinder Antonio, a 20-year-old trainee from Windhoek, who is amongst the five training at Joe Fades Cut, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to acquire skills.
“I am taking the opportunity seriously to acquire the skills that I can use to benefit myself. I am currently unemployed and barbering is an industry where one can self-employ and make a living,” said Antonio.
“I am therefore grateful to Joe Fades Cut and 4×4 Initiative for empowering us with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate life.”
