The Old Mutual Foundation has reaffirmed its commitment to education, youth development and skills advancement through a sponsorship valued at N$50 000 for the National Mathematics Olympiad Competition.
The investment aims to nurture young Namibian talent and encourage excellence in mathematics.
The competition brought together 84 learners from schools across all 14 regions. Each learner received a branded gift in recognition of their dedication and participation.
In addition, the Foundation recognised the outstanding achievements of the top-performing learners by awarding prizes to the top six male and female emerging mathematicians. The top performers received:
Top Performers who received N$8 000 valued unit trust each: Roland K Ndjamba of African Olympiad Academy, and Helena Haikali of African Olympiad Academy.
First Runners-Up who received N$6 000 valued unit trust each: Anton Kanyanga of African Olympiad Academy, and Puye-Ipawa Fillemon of Gabriel Taapopi Secondary School.
Second Runners-Up who received N$4 000 valued unit trust each: Lucky Musovi of Rev Juuso Shikongo Secondary School, and Aiyana Abed of PK de Villiers Secondary School.
In a statement, Old Mutual Foundation said that the sponsorship forms part of its broader commitment to investing in initiatives that create opportunities for young people and contribute towards building a skilled, resilient and future-ready generation.
Mathematics plays a critical role in developing analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and innovation, which are essential skills in an increasingly technology-driven world.
As a financial services institution, Old Mutual recognises the importance of supporting young learners in developing strong foundations in mathematics, as these skills contribute to future opportunities in fields such as finance, science, technology, engineering, and entrepreneurship.
Commenting on the Foundation’s involvement, Ramona Itembu, Old Mutual Foundation Trustee and Group Human Capital Executive at Old Mutual Namibia, said that “Education remains one of the most powerful tools for creating sustainable futures.
“Through initiatives such as the National Mathematics Olympiad, we are investing in young minds and supporting learners who have the potential to become future leaders, innovators, and contributors to Namibia’s growth.
“We believe that by encouraging excellence in mathematics and recognising academic achievement, we are sowing seeds that will positively impact generations to come.”
Itembu said that the Old Mutual Foundation continues to support initiatives that advance education, youth empowerment, and community development, aligned with its vision of creating meaningful and sustainable impact across Namibia.
