The Okongo Village Council made a courtesy visit to the City of Windhoek in order to strengthen cooperation between the two local authorities.

The Okongo delegation was led by the Chairperson of the Okongo Village Council Mr Tuhafeni Shapopi, accompanied by CEO Jackson Muma, several council members and officials.

“Strengthening cooperation and exchanging best practices took centre stage during the courtesy visit by the delegation from Okongo Village Council to the City of Windhoek,” said Okongo Village Council’s communications and local economic development manager Ms Joyce Ueitele.

“The visit provided an opportunity to review progress on the MoU signed in 2022 which remains in effect until 2027.”

The agreement covers urban planning, economic development, financial management, council owned entities, and solid waste management.

Welcoming the delegation, Mayor of Windhoek Mr Sakarias Uunona emphasised the importance of partnership between local authorities and reaffirmed the City’s commitment to supporting Okongo through capacity-building and training opportunities.

While in Windhoek Okongo Village Council also paid a courtesy visit to Welwitchia University, to explore opportunities for collaboration in education, technical and vocational skills development (TVET), agriculture and other community-focused initiatives.

“The delegation was received by the University’s CEO Designate Mr Edward Kafita, together with members of the University executive committee,” said Ueitele.

“The engagement provided an opportunity to discuss potential areas of cooperation that could contribute to skills development, improved educational opportunities, local economic development and sustainable community growth in Okongo.

“Okongo Village Council recognises the importance of strategic partnerships with academic institutions.”
