In an effort to support local media, Standard Bank Namibia donated office furniture and equipment to Omutumwa Newspaper.

Omutumwa, trading as Omutumwa News Online, is digital newspaper operating from Oshakati and catering to the information needs of the northern regions of Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and Omusati.

At an event that took place on 13 September at Standard Bank’s Oshakati branch, the goods, worth N$18 000, were handed over to the editor of Omutumwa Mr Victor Angula.

Handing over the donation was the Branch Manager for Standard Bank in Oshakati Mr Amon Kanghono, together with the Regional Manager for North West Mr Hendrik Van Wyk, and the Regional Sales and Service Manager Ms Analisa Kushinga.

Receiving the donation, Mr Angula expressed gratitude for the unusual gesture.

“Thank you very much for this donation. I can guarantee you that from today on this newspaper is going to become a great newspaper in the society, especially here in the north,” said Angula.

“Information is very important, so we will make sure that everybody receives the necessary information, especially from you who are in the financial sector, so that ignorance in our society and poverty become something of the past.”

The donation consists of two laptops and a USB, three tables, nine chairs, an office drawer, a book case, and a laptop table.

Previously Omutumwa operated from the home of Mr Angula.

“Now we are making arrangements to open a proper office,” he said.
