Swapo Party’s Women Council in Oshana donated around 6,650 kilograms of mahangu (millet) for the people in Erongo region who are affected by the Covid-19.
The donation also includes 3 bags of beans, 4 bags of macaroni and rice as well as many omaliwa.
Handing the donation over to Oshana Governor Elia Irimari at the Swapo Regional Head Office in Oshakati yesterday, Ms Sylvia Shuumbwa the coordinator of the party’s women council in the region said the donation was collected from the region’s constituencies’ various party branches.
“On 25 June 2020 Oshana women’s leadership sat to discuss the situation of Covid-19, especially in Erongo which was the region mostly affected at the time,” said Shuumbwa.
“Oshana women saw that the sickness was spreading fast. We decided to contribute anything we could, especially from our own fields. We did it because as mothers of this nation, it won’t help just listening to stories about the plight of others while we are quiet.
“We want to give this gift to the governor so that it can be forwarded to whoever is in need.”
When receiving the donation Governor Irimari said the mahangu will be milled by Omhalanga Mills in Ongwediva before transporting it to Walvis Bay, Swakopmund and Arandis. The Regional Council will provide the transportation.
