The Town Council of Oshakati this morning handed over the site for the construction of bulk services infrastructure at Ompumbu location to the constructor who is expected to build a tank that will supply water to the north-western side of the town.
The site was handed over to SOK Print Master and Construction as the contractor, while Tulipamwe Consulting Services will handle and supervise the project’s engineering works.
“The project is estimated to cost N$7, 797, 540.96, and construction begins today the 27th October 2021 and is expected to be complete by 23rd May 2022,” said Oshakati Mayor
The Mayor stated that Ompumbu has been zoned for residential purposes and will serve approximately 612 erven.
“Ompumbu is divided into different extensions 1, 2, 3, and Proper, however at this point the budget may only allow the servicing of Extension 1, 2, and Proper. Council hopes to have funds to further service the remaining extension,”
He further stated that although Oshakati has in the past years serviced more than 6000 erven in Ekuku, Ehenye and Onawa, the waiting list for land continues to increase. “Creating more erven each financial year will allow Council to achieve its strategic objectives on land delivery to its residents.”
After construction of the water tanks, the infrastructure will be connected to the Namwater water pipelines for easy and convenient water supply to the residents of Oshakati.
