The Ohangwena Athletics Club won 18 gold medals, 15 silver and 12 bronze medals at the Pupkewitz Foundation Championships which took place on 22 to 23 December 2021 in Swakopmund.
With a total haul of 45 medals Ohangwena Athletics Club (OAC) topped the list of 28 athletics clubs from across Namibia which took part in the event that was graced by the presence of Christine Mboma.
In second spot was Windhoek Gymnasium Athletics Club which managed to collect 32 medals in total, which included 17 gold and 11 silver.
Athletics Development Club and Edugate Otji Athletics Club came third and fourth respectively, with a total of 21 and 13 medals each.
“We honestly want to thank the Governor of Ohangwena Region, and Hotel Galaxy, WAP Pharmacy, and also teachers and parents who gave financial contributions towards our trip to this important event,” said Mr Teofelus Moses, Ohangwena Athletics Club’s marketing and communications manager.
“It was a very good experience for the team. We managed to perform so well even against athletes from Windhoek. Imagine Ohangwena does not have a proper sporting field. These kids train in the sand, but what they have achieved is very good,” said Moses.
