The first ever ‘agricultural market day’ takes place from 1 to 2 July 2022 in Omaruru as an attempt to promote growth of the agriculture sector.
The Agri-Market Day has been organised by Namibia’s agricultural lender, Agribank, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders within the sector, in Erongo region. The market day is being hosted under the theme, “Market your produce and grow your agribusiness.”
Agribank’s spokesperson Mr Fillemon Nangonya said that the agri-market day is aimed at promoting secured household income and increased national food security.
“Similarly, it will serve as a platform for small-scale farmers in Erongo region, to exhibit and market a variety of their produce, while also highlighting value addition opportunities,” Nangonya said.
The market day will enable farmers to share best practices and challenges, while serving as a motivation for prospective emerging farmers to engage in agricultural activities. Various activities such as information sessions and practical demonstrations for farmers are planned for the event.
“As a development finance institution, Agribank will have a team onsite, to assist farmers that may want to access its products and services. Agribank provides affordable, innovative, and inclusive financing options to Namibians willing to, and those participating in the agriculture sector.
“Joining forces with other stakeholders in events such as the agri-market day serves to demonstrate the Bank’s proactiveness in reaching out to potential and existing customers seeking funding at affordable rates for business expansion and development.
“Among other stakeholders, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform, Namibian Police, and Regional Councilors are partners in hosting the event.”
“Going forward, the Bank plans to host similar events in all other regions,” Nangonya said.
