Athletes of Ohangwena Athletics Club swept the track, collecting a total of 29 medals, 13 of which were gold during the Pupkewitz Open Championships which took place at the coastal town of Swakopmund on 13 July.

Ohangwena’s young athletes have always emerged at the top in the Pupkewitz Open Championships since their first participation a few years ago, and this year was no different.

Esmelda Bonita Pena, Monica Kandjebo, and Secilia Haikwiyu had a total haul of 2 Gold medals each. While Ester Petrus collected 1 Gold and 2 Silver medals.

The rest of the team did as follows: Sophie Kambonde (1 Silver, 1 Bronze), Elizabeth Salom (1 Silver, 2 Bronze), Rauna Ngula (1 Bronze), Wilka Nauyoma (1 Silver, 1 Gold), Johanna Nghifindwako (1 Gold, 1 Silver), Laimi Shindjoba (2 Silver), Wilhelmina Mwahalukange (1 Gold, 1 Silver), Linda Hailulu (1 Gold, 1 Silver), Edson Shiluwa (1 Gold), Saara Haindongo 1 Gold), Omwene Tuamena Itoolwa (1 Silver), Jason Haitota (1 Bronze).

“Secondly we would love to thank the Minister of Sport for availing transport to enable us to travel to these games. Thirdly, many thanks go to the young athletes themselves who continue showing their talents; keep the fire burning lads.
