The Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) recognised Mr Remind Ekandjo, better known as DJ Remind, for his contribution to the service industry of northern Namibia.
The recognition was given at the OATF Exhibitor Award ceremony on 30 August at Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair Centre where several other people also received accolades for their efforts in service to society.
Ekandjo received the “Lifetime Service Personality Award”.
“This person popularly known as DJ is a legend of Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair,” said Ongwediva Constituency councillor Mr Andreas Uutoni.
Uutoni, who also serves as a member of the OATF preparatory committee, went on: “Since the inception of OATF, he diligently served OATF in various capacities and in different ways.
“He started his journey with OATF as a member and second in command of the Entertainment Sub-Committee.
“He later identified an opportunity within OATF to provide services such as directing events and functions, supply of PA and sound systems and the construction of performance stages.
“In later years he ventured into supplying and setting up stands mainly for foreign exhibitors. He has since graduated and is involved in event management, the provision of professional catering and décor services for OATF and institutions that hold functions and events during the trade fair.
“His tireless service towards OATF since its inception, is exceptional and worth an accolade.
“The person I refer to is none other than Mr Remind Ekandjo (DJ Remind) our very own MC.”
Ekandjo stepped forward towards the stage where he received the award from Mr Uutoni and Ms Ulalia Katonyala, the Ongwediva deputy mayor.
The awards ceremony, sponsored by First National Bank Namibia, also saw several other people receive accolades. Mr Mathias Nanghanda received the “Lifetime Media Personality Award”, Ambassador Clemence Kashuupulwa received the “Lifetime Guardian Award”, and Ms Penina Martin received the “Lifetime Exhibitor Award”.
