MISA Zimbabwe reports that on the 4th of August 2024, Studio 7 news correspondent Nunurai Jena was forced to leave a Mashonaland West Zanu PF inter-district meeting in Chinhoyi.

During the meeting, Jena was approached by a member of the party’s political commissariat, who advised him that he was not allowed to attend the meeting, as he was associated with Studio 7.

Despite there being other private media present, Jena was singled out and asked to leave the meeting.

“MISA Zimbabwe strongly condemns the harassment and intimidation of journalists. These actions undermine press freedom and prevent journalists from fulfilling their constitutional duty to inform the public,” the Zimbabwean media watchdog said in a statement.

“MISA Zimbabwe urges all stakeholders to uphold the right to freedom of expression and freedom of the media as espoused in our Constitution.”
