A group of 19 young athletes from Ohangwena region will from 10 to 12 October be in Potchefstroom, South Africa, to participate in the NWU Top 30 Championship.
The athletes, most of whom are aged between 13 and 14, will be pushing themselves to put up impressive performances in order to qualify for the Youth Olympics slated for Dakar, Senegal, in 2026.
“Our main aim is to give these athletes an international exposure and experience,” says Mr Teofelus Moses, the marketing and communication manager for Ohangwena Athletics Club.
“Most of these young athletes are at their level best, they have proved that they are among the best in Namibia.
“The team is also proud as among them are two athletes who recently represented Namibia at the World Cross Country championship in Kenya.
“The team also has one young athlete who has qualified for international games (Gymnasiade Bahrain 2024) taking place during the last week of October in Bahrain.”
In order to make the trip to Potchefstroom a memorable reality the team needs financial support.
“We are humbly asking from any Samaritan, be it private companies, parastatal or nongovernmental organization or individuals to help the team financially. We are looking forward to raising enough funds to pay for the team’s accommodation in SA.
“The team is trying to raise N$43,800 for bed and breakfast in Potchefstroom.”
The team is expected to leave Ohangwena region on 7 October and return on 14 October.
Any Samaritan can contact the team for further engagement. Funds can be paid straight to the guesthouse’s account. For more information Mr Teofelus Moses can be contacted at 0812345300 or mosesmteofelus@gmail.com.
