Donald John Trump on 20 January 2025 became the 47th president of the United States of America, making him one man who rewrote history and made political pundits confounded.
This is Trump’s “second term” as he was the 45th president, and during his attempt for the second term he lost to the now former president Joe Biden in a contested election, an election which Trump refused to accept its outcome.
Refusal to accept defeat was already a serious misdemeanour in American society, so much so that this would have sent any such former president in the wilderness.
Yet Trump’s return to the most powerful position in the western world came about after the man survived two impeachments during his first term of office, and then when he was out of office he got convicted of a crime.
As it stands, Trump is the first man in American history to become president with a criminal record on his name.
While Trump’s problems were politically motivated and pushed by his political opponents, it just was amazing how an American man can still stand tall and regain the goodwill and support of more than half of the population to be voted back to the office of president.
Despite the thousands of American politicians at all levels of society, from state governments to federal government, none could stand out to be seen as a beacon of hope for an America which is slowly losing its grip on geopolitical power and economic hegemony.
While Trump was being grilled by his political opponents, none could emerge from his own party to be a potential replacement and better candidate to run for the top office.
Thus despite Trump’s shortcomings and eccentric character, the nation’s eyes were still on him as he spoke the language the nation wanted to hear.
Trump’s political achievement came as a result of his strong conviction that it is time to “make America great again”.
Donald Trump’s ability to rise again to the top is simply a result of his single-minded conviction that he can make America great again.
