Welwitchia University has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing agricultural education and community development by hosting a landmark two-day training workshop on “Soil Management for Sustainable Agriculture” at its School of Agriculture and Nature Conservation at its Mururani Campus.
The event, held on 28 – 29 April 2025, was coordinated by Mr. Amon Haufiku, Director: TVET Programs, and brought together 60 students eager to strengthen their practical and theoretical expertise in sustainable farming.
The workshop was officially opened by Mr. Gabriel Almandu, Head of Campus, Welwitchia School of Agriculture & Nature Conservation (Mururani), who underscored the institution’s vision to empower students with skills that directly address Namibia’s agricultural and environmental challenges.
Welwitchia University continues to expand its footprint in applied agricultural sciences through innovative programmes and industry partnerships.
The training was organised in partnership with GIZ Namibia’s Farming for Resilience (F4R) Project and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, Marine, and Land Reform further strengthening the University’s role as a bridge between academic learning and real-world agricultural practice.
The School of Agriculture & Nature Conservation at Welwitchia University offers a range of qualifications designed to equip students with the competencies required for modern agriculture, including National Vocational Certificates in Horticulture and Crop Production, Livestock Husbandry, and Farm Machinery and Infrastructure.
This workshop aligns with the University’s mission to provide hands-on, industry-relevant training that supports both student development and national food security.
“This initiative exemplifies Welwitchia University’s educational philosophy: putting students at the centre of the learning process and preparing them for the real world through practical, work integrated experiences,” said Mrs. Christell Nassauw, the Director for Corporate Engagement and International Relations at Welwitchia University.
“By bridging academic knowledge with field-based skills, the University ensures its graduates are equipped to make meaningful contributions to Namibia’s agricultural sector and broader socio-economic development.”
