Oshakati Town Council’s preparatory committee is busy with preparations to put on Namibia’s biggest cultural show, known as Oshakati Totem Expo.

With only several weeks to go, the Oshakati Totem Expo is expected to be bigger and better after the organisers managed to raise N$804,140.00 at the gala dinner held during the weekend.

This comes after the Totem Expo did not take place during the year 2024 as the organisers said that they were working on rebranding and remodeling the annual exposition which is fashioned after the traditional familial totems.

Since, unlike the sister towns of Ongwediva, Ondangwa, Eenhana and Outapi, Oshakati does not have a place and infrastructure specifically designed to host the town’s expo, the Totem Expo will still take place at the Oshakati Independence Stadium from 31 May to 7 June 2025.

In the past the expo used to take place during early December, but this year’s chilly weather of June may dampen the festivities, especially after sunset.

The Totem Expo of 2023 which took place from 4 December was however not seen as a resounding success since a lot of exhibitors did not even turn up on the last day of the expo.

With the close-to-a-million dollars raised at the gala dinner and other logistical support measures being put in place, this year’s Totem Expo is expected to be the best and go beyond expectations.
