The Rossing Foundation has donated items and materials worth half a million dollars to the Oshana Regional Council in an effort to boost the region’s agricultural out in the next rainy season.

The items and materials which include a mahangu threshing machine and 3124 various items such as poles, fertilizer bags, seeds, steel wire, wire netting, hoes, spades and shovels were handed over today at the offices of the Regional Council in Oshakati.

Ms Maria Immanuel, the manager for liaison and community development at The Rossing Foundation, speaking on behalf of Mr Uparura Kuvare, the Executive Director of The Rossing Foundation, said that The Rossing Foundation, since its establishment in 1978, has made significant strides in supporting national development activities and became the leading corporate social investment organisation in Namibia.

Immanuel said that The Rossing Foundation’s 2023-2027 strategic plan has four strategic objectives which include education, entrepreneurship, water security and food systems, health and climate change.

“In response to the pressing challenges posed by the drought situation The Foundation remains agile in its support, specifically our food support system intervention has directed contributions to the Oshana Regional Council following the government’s declaration of the state of emergency for drought that was done in 2024,” said Immanuel.

“The severe drought has affected livelihoods and agricultural outputs, nutrition security and access to clean water. Recognising the urgency for collective action we are committed to provide both immediate relief and long-term recovery assistance.

“Today it is our pleasure to present a donation of N$500 000 to Oshana region in suport of drought mitigation measures in the constituencies of Okatjali, Uukwiyuushona and Uuvudhiya.”

Oshana Regional Council’s chairperson Mr Andreas Uutoni said that the donation by The Rossing Foundation is not just a donation “but a celebration of a partnership and commitment to help our people.

“We are proud to host this event because it demonstrates what we can achieve when we work in partnership to help those who are vulnerable among us.”

The event was attended by several regional councilors of Oshana such as Mr Joseph Mupetami of Okatjali, Mr Andreas Amundjindi of Uukwiyuushona, Mr Timotheus Shivute of Uuvudhiya, Mr Leonard Negonga of Ondangwa Urban, and Mr Kaushiweni Abraham of Ondangwa Rural.
