Harare Magistrate Ruth Moyo on 29 July 2025 postponed the hearing of the Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) case to 15 August 2025.
MISA Zimbabwe reports that this followed the State’s announcement of its intention to merge the dockets of AMH editor-in-chief Kholwani Nyathi and Zimbabwe Independent editor Faith Zaba.
AMH and Zaba are facing charges of undermining the authority of or insulting the President.
According to the NewsDay edition of 30 July 2025, AMH, represented by lawyer Chris Mhike, challenged its placement on remand, arguing that the facts of the matter do not disclose an offence.
The case is based on an article published in the Muckraker column of the Zimbabwe Independent.
According to the State, the article was materially false and was designed to engender feelings of hostility towards President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Zimbabwe stands at position 106 on the RSF Global Press Freedom Index.
