NamPost will from October start with the work of distributing the government’s social welfare cash grants.

The grants will be distributed through the 136 Post Offices and mobile teams countrywide.

“This program does not include grant recipients that are receiving their grants through banks, or other financial institutions,” said Mr. Gladwin Groenewaldt, NamPost’s Manager for Marketing and Corporate Communication.

“Pertaining to operational readiness, NamPost is at an advanced stage to finalise the upgrade to our payment systems, to enable both in-branch (Post Office) and out-of-branch (mobile teams) payment operations.

“Furthermore, NamPost is committed to capacitate our high-volume branches with additional service points and front-line staff.”

NamPost will deploy mobile teams to “to ensure accessibility, continuity and timeous operations for grant recipients residing in remote areas and far from a NamPost Post Office.

“Additionally, to ensure safe and secure cash payments at remote payout points, mobile teams will be accompanied by well-trained Cash-In-Transit Security personnel.”

NamPost will introduce a payment program for monthly in-branch and mobile grant distribution.

Groenewaldt stated that during the second phase, starting early in 2026, NamPost in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance (MOF), will provide beneficiaries with the option to migrate to a Digital Grant Account, which will be Instant Payment Systems (IPS) ready, enabled with biometrics authentication, and fully compliant with banking regulations.

“This account aims to allow account holders to access insurance, savings and loan products. This digital grant account will be sponsored by the MOF to ensure cash grant recipients don’t incur any costs after this migration.”
