Namibian star Alvarita Benedito Lucungo, better known by her stage name as Alvara the singer, songwriter, composer, and disability advocate, continues to shine brightly on the global stage.
Earlier this year, she represented Namibia at the Inclusive Africa Conference in Nairobi, Kenya, captivating audiences with her story, voice, and passion for inclusion.
On 14 October 2025, Alvarita departed for Mainz, Germany, where she will represent Namibia at the prestigious Grenzenlos Kultur Festival, an international celebration of disability-inclusive art, music, and performance.
Her participation comes courtesy of a full sponsorship by the Goethe-Institut Namibia, marking yet another milestone in her inspiring journey as both an artist and an advocate.
“I am super excited! This is a great opportunity for the Namibian performing arts industry at large and for persons living with disabilities,” said Alvarita with a beaming smile before boarding her flight.
Born with congenital glaucoma and astigmatism, Alvarita’s life has been a story of resilience and purpose. Despite undergoing multiple surgeries to relieve eye pressure, which have left her partially blind and reliant on a white cane, she continues to break barriers and redefine what it means to be an artist with a disability.
Through her soulful blend of R&B, soul, and Afropop, Alvarita weaves melodies that speak to perseverance, hope, and empowerment. Her music uplifts and challenges perceptions, reminding the world that disability is not inability, but it’s a different lens through which greatness shines.
The Grenzenlos Kultur Festival, now in its 27th year, brings together artists from across the world to celebrate inclusivity and diversity through performance, dialogue, and collaboration.
Alvarita’s selection is a moment of national pride, spotlighting Namibia’s growing influence in the international creative economy.
As she takes the stage in Germany, Alvarita carries with her not only her music but also the dreams and voices of countless Namibians, especially young people and persons with disabilities who dare to believe that their stories, too, deserve to be heard on the world stage.
Her journey embodies courage, creativity, and the unshakable spirit of Namibian excellence.
