The Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Ms Emma Theofelus today opened the first ever and new MTC Mobile Home in Divundu – increasing the telco’s footprint presence to a total of 39 Mobile Homes countrywide.
Speaking at the event, Theofelus highlighted that “inclusivity can only be achieved when we intentionally invest and make information and communication infrastructure easily and affordably accessible.
“As a country, we have recorded significant progress in improving network coverage and digital transformation. I thus urge MTC to continue the commendable work and dedication of bringing information technology to our people.”
This year, the telco giant, MTC, has opened at least five new Mobile Homes, with Omuthiya and Divundu getting their first ever Mobile Home, saving the residents from having to travel many kilometers to Ondangwa or Rundu in search of MTC services.
Additionally, Windhoek also got a new mobile home in Katutura, (Greenwell Matongo location), while both Rundu and Katima Mulilo each got a second Shop to satisfy the increased customer base and service demand.
MTC General Manager for Product Solutions, Andreas Gustav, highlighted that opening five mobile homes in one financial year is testimony to the company’s commitment to ensuring that every Namibian is accorded a fair and equal chance to have access to information and communication technology and not be left behind.
“We are proudly unlocking and enabling socio-economic affairs,” Gustav stated.
“This shop signifies our trust in Divundu and our long-term commitment to the people of the Kavango East region.
“As this town grows, connecting Namibia to neighbouring countries and benefitting from a booming tourism market, we want MTC to be right there as the driver and enabler of an exclusive economy.”
Kavango East Governor, Mr Julius Hambyuka, expressed gratitude to MTC, stating that the populace of Divundu no longer have to travel long distances to access MTC services.
“This new MTC Mobile Home is a symbol of inclusion. It means that the people of Divundu and the surrounding communities are not left behind in the digital revolution,” Hambyuka said.
“It means that our local entrepreneurs can register SIM cards, pay bills, and access mobile money services without the burden of travel costs. It also means that students and the youth can stay connected – to education, to opportunity, and to the world beyond our borders.”
