Officials at the Kaoko Fria Smart City, a mega infrastructure investment planned for the coastal Cape Fria settlement, have expressed joy over President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s remarks during her State of the Nation Address (SONA) in the National Assembly yesterday afternoon.

In her remarks Nandi-Ndaitwah said, “Cape Fria has been on the cards since the days of our Founding President. So if we can get a credible investor in this project, we will do it. I would want to have a city created during the time I’m the President. I would need to see that.”

In a statement, Kaoko Fria Investment’s spokesperson Mr Immanuel Nghifikwa said that the President’s statement reinforces both the historic foundation of the project under Founding President, Dr. Sam Nujoma and the present administration’s clear political will to see its realisation.

“We respectfully affirm that this national vision has matured into the Smart City Project, a structured, feasible, bankable, and implementation-ready framework aligned with the President’s legacy ambition,” Nghifikwa said.

“Notably, this position was already firmly established following a high-level engagement on 27 March 2026 between the Kaoko Fria Smart City delegation and the Ministry of Works and Transport, led by Hon. Veikko Nekundi.

“During this engagement, the project’s strategic capacity to transform Namibia’s economic trajectory was extensively deliberated and affirmed.

“In direct response to the President’s emphasis on credibility: credible investors are not only being sought, they are already prepared.”

Nghifikwa stated that established international and local investors have expressed readiness to participate, subject to regulatory approvals and due governmental processes.

“The project is anchored in verified legal frameworks, feasibility studies, and technical validation.

“On public protection and transparency, we fully align with the President’s position on due diligence and safeguarding citizens from fraudulent activities.”

Nghifikwa further stated that the Kaoko Fria Smart City Project does not require any registration fees or public financial contributions.

“Any individual or entity soliciting funds under the name of the Cape Fria project is acting without mandate and should be reported immediately to the relevant authorities.

“All official communication is disseminated through media and verified platforms. The President’s aspiration ‘to have a city created during [her] tenure’ is both valid and achievable.

“This ambition is further reinforced by the national imperative to deliver approximately 550,000 employment opportunities, an objective clearly identified as a shared responsibility between government and the private sector, as emphasized by the Head of State during her address.”

He also said that Kaoko Fria Investment remains committed to working closely with the Government of Namibia under the leadership of President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah to ensure that the Cape Fria project advances with the highest standards of credibility, transparency, and measurable impact, delivering a transformative and enduring national legacy.

“Indeed, the moment calls for national consensus, one vision, one direction, and one collective commitment, anchored in the enduring wisdom of our giant, H.E. Dr. Sam Nujoma, who once said: ‘A people united, striving to achieve the common good for all members of society, will always emerge victorious.’
