The Deputy Mayor of Oshikuku Town Council, Ms Cecilia V. Kamati, has described entrepreneurs as the nation’s “economic soldiers,” highlighting their vital role in creating jobs, stimulating economic growth, and supporting countless families.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Kamati pointed out that many business owners currently face significant challenges. These include financial constraints, economic uncertainty, and an increasing incidence of reputational attacks on social media platforms.
“As a leaders serving in both the public office and the private sector, I feel compelled to raise a matter of national importance: the growing challenges facing Namibian entrepreneurs and businesses,” she said.
She added that many successful entrepreneurs frequently find themselves subjected to unfounded allegations and public criticism without adequate legal or institutional protection.
According to Kamati, this hostility not only damages individuals’ businesses but also discourages investment, innovation, and entrepreneurship as a whole.
To combat these challenges, Kamati called on the government to consider establishing a dedicated Entrepreneurial Banking Fund, an initiative that would aim to support local businesses with affordable financing tools and create sustainable growth opportunities.
“Across Namibia, we continue to witness businesses downsizing or closing their doors,” Kamati said.
“We all understand the economic realities that have contributed to this situation. Economic growth is slowing and urgent interventions are needed to restore confidence and stimulate business activity.”
Kamati stressed that entrepreneurs are valuable contributors to national development.
She concluded that by creating an enabling environment for business growth, investment, and innovation, Namibia can collectively safeguard jobs, stimulate economic activity, and build a more prosperous future for upcoming generations.
