Plastic Packaging has opened its branch at big premises situated in the industrial area of Oshakati, after relocating from Ongwediva where the company has for years operated on rented premises.

Now operating from its own premises, the company is set to improve its footprint in the northern regions of Oshana, Omusati, Oshikoto, Ohangwena and northern Kunene.

Speaking at the opening of the new premises Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Mrs Lucia Ipumbu said that as someone who was born in Oshakati she felt proud to be a keynote speaker at the opening of the new premises of Plastic Packaging.

She emphasised the important role played by Plastic Packaging’s recycling division, saying that recycling makes town environments clean.

In a speech read on his behalf by Oshakati’s deputy mayor Ms Marianne Pokolo, the Mayor of Oshakati Mr Leonard Hango said that the investment put into the new premises of Plastic Packaging showed confidence in the future of Oshakati and confidence in the people of Oshakati.

“Every investment in our town creates employment and improves the livelihoods of our people,” Hango said.

“We appreciate Plastic Packaging for making this premises a reality in Oshakati. We therefore are grateful for the confidence you have in our town.”

Plastic Packaging’s managing director Mr Nico du Plessis gave a brief overview of the company, saying that other than selling plastic packaging products the company recycles 4000 tons of plastic per year, and has 500 employees.

“After renting for 22 years, finally we have our home like a dream come true,” Du Plessis said.

“We decided to invest here because we believe in the north. We want to be closer to our customers. We are here for the long-term, to support local businesses grow as we grow together.”

Du Plessis stated that through the company’s recycling plant in Okahandja, “We don’t discard the old; we give it a new purpose.”

Chairman of Plastic Packaging, Mr Frank Fredericks, thanked everyone who came to witness the opening of the premises of the company in Oshakati, adding that the company will continue to invest and create more employment in the north.

The Oshakati premises of Plastic Packaging consist of a shop, offices, and a warehouse.
