Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) is set to open a new and its first retail outlet in Okongo, bringing the total to 40 stores countrywide.
Okongo, one of the fastest-growing towns in the Ohangwena Region, is currently served only through MTC’s periodic outreach programme. As a result, many residents have been forced to travel nearly 100 kilometres to Eenhana to access essential MTC services.
However, according to MTC, this will soon become a thing of the past, as plans to establish the town’s first-ever MTC Mobile Home have been completed, with the opening scheduled for August 2026.
MTC Corporate Communications Practitioner, Erasmus Nekundi, said the growing demand for MTC services in Okongo and neighbouring communities has made a permanent presence in the town necessary.
“The demand for MTC services in Okongo and surrounding areas has increased significantly over the years, necessitating a permanent MTC presence in the town,” said Nekundi.
“Furthermore, access to telecommunications services is critical to socio-economic development, making it essential for us to provide convenient and reliable access to our services as part of our customer-centric approach.”
Once operational, the Mobile Home will offer a wide range of services, including SIM card replacements and registrations, contract applications, account payments and renewals, MTC Maris, and the sale of recharge vouchers.
Nekundi said that the continuous expansion of retail outlets is part of MTC’s expansion strategy under its Integrated Strategic Business Strategy, coupled with its robust digital inclusion strategy to achieve service footprints in major areas of growth, as informed by demographic and economic statistics.
“Through this expansion, MTC continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation, customer-centered service delivery, and community development by exploring practical solutions that respond directly to the needs of Namibians.
“MTC will continue to invest in retail infrastructure, expanding our national footprint while ensuring our network always delivers a quality service.
“Under the current financial year, new mobile homes are also planned for Walvis Bay and Okuryangava (in Windhoek), whilst the Ongwediva store is set to relocate to a larger space within the Oshana Mall.”
For the 2026/27 financial year, outlets for Omaruru, Otjinene, and potentially Outjo are in the pipeline for the first quarter of 2027.
