The Inspector General of the Namibian Police Lieutenant General Joseph Shikongo inaugurated a C Class Police Station at Okatyali village in Okatyali Constituency of Oshana Region.

At the inauguration of the prefabricated station the Inspector General of the Police was accompanied by some of his senior officials from Windhoek, as well as the regional commanders of Oshana and Omusati, while Ohangwena and Oshikoto sent senior regional officials to represent their regional commanders.

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari was represented by Oshana Regional Chairperson Mr Andreas Uutoni.

King of Ondonga Fillemon Nangolo Shuumbwa was also present at the event.

The two-room charge office, a station commander’s house, barracks for four male officers and six female officers, as well as an entertainment structure and kitchen, and parking structure, all came at a cost N$4,9 million.

A Toyota Hilux 4×4 vehicle for the station was also bought at a cost of N$600,000.

This new police station comes after 20 years of the police operating a semi-police station in a structure donated by the Constituency’s Councillor Mr Joseph Mupetami. During all those years, it was possible to lay a charge at Okatyali, but the case was moved over to be opened at Ondangwa.

Now the fully-functional police station has eight officers and a station commander with a rank of Inspector.

Warrant Aili Inekela Nambala, who will from 1 August be decorated with the rank of Inspector, will serve as the station commander for Okatyali Police Station.
