Vice President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah opened a double storey office complex in Eenhana which will serve as the office of the Ohangwena region’s education directorate.

The state of the art building was officially opened yesterday by Nandi-Ndaitwah who was accompanied by the Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Mrs Ester Anna Nghipondoka, and the Deputy Minister of Education, Arts and Culture Mrs Faustina Caley.

Ohangwena Governor Lieutenant General Sebastian Ndeitunga and other top government officials of the region were also present.

“It is with distinct honour that I join you at this auspicious occasion, the inauguration of the Education, Arts and Culture Directorate Regional Office in the Ohangwena Region.

“These offices symbolise more than just a building; it represents a national milestone to improve the delivery of quality teaching and learning environment as well as to bring quality services closer to the people of Ohangwena Region, and the Namibian nation, as a whole,” said Vice President Nandi-Ndaitwah.

Nandi-Ndaitwah said that the journey began in 2016 with the aspiration to provide a dedicated infrastructure to enhance educational planning and administration in the region.

“Despite the initial challenges that were experienced at the beginning of the project, I am informed that the project was handed over to the August 26 Construction in July 2022. Under the able and capable leadership of Col. Martha Endjala, August 26 Construction completed the development of this infrastructure on time and within budget.

“This is commendable indeed. I would like to urge the Namibian building and construction industry to emulate this good example of August 26 Construction of professionalism, dedication, and commitment to delivering a quality project.”

Nandi-Ndaitwah also stated that, “We can only deliver quality education to our children when we have dependable educational infrastructures, particularly in the regions.

“It is for this reason that our Government invests a lion share of our national budget in the development of educational infrastructures in order to improve educational outcomes.

“The existence of this state-of-the-art infrastructure here in Ohangwena Region is a clear demonstration of our Government’s unwavering dedication to empowering communities by bringing educational services closer to our people.

“This is not just about having an Office; it is about creating a space where the vital work of educational planning and execution of quality educational delivery can flourish.”

She further said that the new offices “will allow our officials to work more efficiently, in a conducive environment, ensuring that teaching and learning in the region are delivered effectively, efficiently and rapidly, and to ensure highest standards.”

In the past the directorate of education in Ohangwena has been renting office space from private companies who, Nandi-Ndaitwah said, used to charge the government millions of dollars monthly.

“These high rental costs forced us to build our own office,” she said.
