Ondangwa Town Council yesterday held its annual council elections for its office bearers. This Extraordinary Council Meeting was held in the Council Chamber, where Mr Paavo Amwele was re-elected to remain the town’s mayor.

At the same elections, Councillor Ester Auala retained her position of Deputy Mayor, while Councillor Julia Kapia was elected to serve as the Chairperson of the Management Committee.

The election was presided over by Magistrate Nelao Ya France.

In his acceptance speech Amwele said that the council will continue to meet the residents’ expectations and fulfill its promises.

“As leaders and councilors we should always remember that our duty is to give direction to staff and to encourage them to do their work in a conducive environment,” Amwele said.

“If we work together as a team we will even achieve more. So I call upon all of us to work hard in order to make 2025 a very successful year.

“With these few remarks I accept this leadership position.”

Every year the council conducts elections for office bearers to serve for a period of 12 months in accordance with Section 11(2) (c) and Section 21(2) (a) of the Local Authority Act 23 of 1992, as amended.
