Good showers received this week have brought some hope to most western parts of Omusati region.
While most parts of Oshana, Oshikoto, and Ohangwena received some good showers over the last six weeks, most parts of Omusati are still dry.
“These showers we are receiving these days are giving us a sigh of relief,” said Mr Tomas Shilongo, a resident of Oshifo in Ruacana Constituency.
Shilongo, who is both a crop farmer and small livestock farmer, said the rain would save them from hunger.
“If the rain continues for a few more weeks, this will save us from hunger as people and our animals.
“Our hearts were dejected as we heard news of rainfall in other parts of the country which is said to be above average rainfall, while on our side we received nothing.”
As a result of the recent rains, some mahangu fields are now becoming green, just as grass is growing in areas where animals graze.
