First National Bank of Namibia (FNB) donated food and household items to families affected by the last rainy season’s flooding in Oshana region.
The donation valued at N$50 000 was handed over on 16 June 2025 to Oshana Governor Mr Elia Irimari.
“It is my distinct honour to stand before you today on behalf of FNB Namibia as we make this donation to the people of the Oshana region,” said Mr Abongile Mpikwa, FNB Area Manager.
“Natural disasters are among the most tragic and devastating events that can strike a community. They come without warning, disrupt lives, displace families, and often leave behind a trail of destruction that takes years to recover from.”
Mpikwa said that Namibia has had its fair share of such destruction from natural disasters.
“And the northern regions know the hardship of recurring floods all too well. Despite the familiarity, each flood brings with it fresh heartbreak.
“This year, our people have lost their homes, their belongings, and in some cases, their livelihoods.
“In light of the recent floods and the widespread damage caused, FNB Namibia is proud to extend our donation of N$150 000 in support of the affected communities in these three regions.
“This contribution will go directly towards providing essentials such as food supplies, sanitary items, and mosquito nets to help ease the burden faced by many families during this challenging time.”
The donation is made in collaboration with the Governors’ offices of the three regions of Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati, who will ensure that the help reaches those who need it most.
Each of the three regions will receive donated items worth N$50 000.
“As a bank, we are more than just a financial institution. We are part of the communities we serve. We do not take our role in society lightly. FNB Namibia understands the immense responsibility that comes with being in the private sector.
“We believe that where there is a need, especially in times of crisis, we must rise to the occasion and contribute meaningfully.
“We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the communities and regional leadership for reaching out to us. We are here today because you raised your voices, and we listened.
“This partnership between government, private sector, and the people is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together for the greater good.
“Let this handover not only be a symbol of assistance but also of hope, unity and resilience. We know recovery won’t happen overnight, but we are committed to being part of the journey, every step of the way.”
In accepting the donation, Oshana Governor Mr Elia Irimari said that the support comes at a crucial time for many households in Oshana who are facing hardships due to economic challenges, climate related impacts and other social vulnerabilities.
“This donation is not merely a gift of food, it is a powerful act of compassion, solidarity, and commitment to uplift the most affected members of our community,” Irimari said.
“FNB has once again demonstrated what it means to be a responsible corporate citizen, one that not only invests in economic growth but also in the wellbeing and dignity of our people.
“These food parcels will provide immediate relief and comfort to many families, restoring hope and reminding them that they are not alone.
“We look forward to continued collaboration and partnership with FNB and other like-minded organisations as we strive to build stronger, more resilient communities in the Oshana Region.”
