In the heart of the Otavi Triangle, where Namibia’s fertile land meets the resilience of its people, a golden narrative is unfolding.

This is the story of Otavi Golden Maize, a proudly Namibian product crafted by Hangala Foods, and standing as a testament to the transformative potential of local ingenuity.

More than 23 years ago, an ambitious family conviction took root: that Namibia’s land holds the inherent capacity to feed its people.

When Dr. Leake S. Hangala and his family acquired Ombanje Farm, they invested not only in land, but in possibility.

Over two decades of steadfast cultivation has transformed potential into productivity, and vision into enduring value.

Today, that legacy flourishes in Otavi Golden Maize, a premium, locally manufactured maize meal, available in Super Maize Meal, Special Sifted Maize Meal, and Unsifted Maize Meal, embodying Namibia’s growing mastery over its own food systems.

At the heart of all that Hangala Foods does is a resonant, forward-looking mandate: to become Namibia’s preeminent integrated food enterprise, enriching the nation with high-quality, health-conscious, authentically local products.

This is more than a strategic statement; it is a pledge to catalyse national development, stimulate economic empowerment, and enhance community wellbeing.

By prioritising domestic production and value addition, Hangala Foods strives to build a future in which Namibia is not merely a consumer of imported staples but a producer of its own prosperity.

Otavi Golden Maize is produced at Hangala Foods’ state-of-the-art Ombanje Milling Plant (OMP), a facility that reflects meticulous planning, investment, and innovation.

Key project highlights include, 18 months construction period, 120 workers employed during construction, N$35 million total investment, 50 tons per day of milling capacity, 2 silos of 500 tons capacity each, 38 permanent employment positions created, 2 operational shifts, and a product range that includes Super Maize Meal, Special Sifted Maize Meal, and Unsifted Maize Meal.

The OMP comprises modern milling systems, grain receiving infrastructure, a laboratory, storage silos, a product house, a weighbridge, and office and canteen facilities.

Designed for efficiency and quality, the plant ensures that every bag of Otavi Golden Maize meets the highest standards of safety, nutrition, and consistency.
