Although a few faces were introduced to the new council, the two individuals who had for the last five years held the most powerful positions at the town returned, and returned to their old positions – the positions they had held for the past five years.
The two are Mr Leonard Hango who was again given the role to serve as the mayor of the town and chairperson of the town council, as well as Mr Hofni Mutota who was again given the role to serve as chairperson of the management committee.
Both Hango and Mutota had held their respective positions for the five year-term of the previous council.
Another notable comeback is Mr Jerobeam Ndaamohamba who returned to hold the position as an ordinary member of the council.
Mr Maria Mutumbulwa also returned to the new council and was again elected to serve as a member of the town’s management committee.
The new faces to the new council are Ms Mariana Pokolo who was elected to serve as the new deputy mayor, Ms Johanna Daniel who was elected to serve as a member of the management committee, and Ms Vicky Moongo who will serve as an ordinary member of the council.
“I accept this responsibility with humility, respect, and an unwavering commitment to serve our people and fulfil our mandate as a Local Authority with outstanding track record,” said Mr Hango during his acceptance speech.
