ALL residents of Oshikango constituency are expected to be present at Namibia’s 36th independence celebrations, which will be held at Oshikango on Saturday the 21st of March.
Oshikango constituency councilor Ms Ester Ndatala Nghidimbwa has urged all the residents of the constituency to attend the celebrations in order to remember the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for the country’s independence.
“This is a national event of great importance and everyone in our constituency is expected to attend,” Nghidimbwa said.
“We all need to attend.”
According to the regional councilor, this year’s event will be of epic proportions as it marks the first time that such an event will be celebrated in the constituency at a national level.
“Typically, it would be celebrated elsewhere and here in the region we only have a berated event.
“However, this year, as announced by the President, the day will be celebrated and commemorated simultaneously across all the regions in the country.”
At Saturday’s event, Ohangwena governor Kadiva Hamutumwa is anticipated to introduce the keynote speaker of the day, who will be Urban and Rural Development minister Mr Sankwasa James Sankwasa.
“The honourable minister will deliver the keynote speech. It will be an honour for us the residents of Oshikango to have this day commemorated and celebrated in our constituency this year as the day is commemorated simultaneously across the country. Considering the number of constituencies in the region, we should feel honoured,” Nghidimbwa pointed out.
Nghidimbwa urged residents of the constituency not to abuse the day, by engaging in nefarious behaviour such as drinking alcohol and frequenting bars.
“The fact that this day is automatically a public holiday does not mean you should abuse it by being at bars because you are not going to work. We should all go to Oshikango to listen to the minister’s message,” she concluded.
President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah announced that the day would be celebrated in all fourteen regions of the country on the same day, in order to give all the residents a chance to celebrate at the same time.
This year the theme of the celebration is “Beyond 35: For a Prosperous Future.”
