Ten income generating projects in Oshana received materials and equipment from the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare.

The materials and equipment handed over to the beneficiaries by Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare Minister Doreen Sioka have the total value of N$186,000.

The handing over took place in Ongwediva on 23 July 2020. The projects consisted of tailoring, poultry, welding, hairdressing, and gardening by small scale entrepreneurs of which members in each project were one to four.

Minister Sioka called on the beneficiaries to continue working hard and improve their living conditions.

“The ministry strives to improve the lives of all the Namibian people by encouraging women and men from poor communities to embark on income generating activities in order to improve their livelihoods and ensure self-employment,” Ms Sioka said.

One of the beneficiaries Ms Junila Josef said: “On earth there is no poverty, unless only you don’t want to work. Do whatever activity that can generate income for you. Even digging for rats, or catching frogs.”
