After several attempts by several Namibian boxers over the past decade, a week ago Jeremiah Nakathila became the first Namibian boxer to win on American soil.

Nakathila knocked out former WBC super featherweight champion Miguel Berchelt who had moved up to the lightweight division to face Jeremiah Nakathila on 26 March.

Nakathila’s previous fight at the Resorts World Events Center in Las Vegas, USA, was a loss to American WBO junior lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson in June 2021.

Back in Las Vegas within less than six months to face Berchelt, Nakathila delivered a knock out in the sixth round.

Nakathila’s win could thus be the breaking of the glass ceiling for Namibian boxers who will in future fight in the USA.
