The weekend of 12 to 14 August will see teams from all constituencies of Oshana battling for top honours in seven sporting codes.

The competition, which has been powered by PstBet, will take place at Oshakati Independence Stadium.

The seven sport codes are soccer, netball, volleyball, boxing, owela, tug-o-war, and village marathon.

Today at the launch of this first-ever Governor’s Cup competition, Mr Abner Neputa, who represents PstBet, said that N$70,000 has been provided by PstBet for the competition.

“The same amount will be allocated for each of the next two years,” he said.

Oshana Governor Elia Irimari was ecstatic about the tournament and expressed his desire that the competition will serve as an opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talents in the various sports codes.

“Some people have asked why ‘owela’. Owela is also included because it is a sport code. It is that sport which promotes critical and tactical thinking, just like chess,” Irimari stated.

PstBet will be the main sponsor of the Governor’s Cup, but smaller sponsorships have come in to support the event by Pupkewitz Wolksvagen, Erongo Marine, Ondangwa Town Council, Oshakati Town Council, Ongwediva Town Council, and The Namdia Foundation.
