The 23rd Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair (OATF) will kick off on 23 August, promising a week full of new features and new experiences for both exhibitors and visitors.
At a press conference on 16 August, the Ongwediva Annual Trade Fair Society has pointed out some of the new features at this year’s fair, stating that safety and security will be a priority.
While a 24-hour Satellite Police Station will be in operation throughout the period of the trade fair, three security companies have been contracted to provide 80 guards per shift to supplement the police.
“For security enhancement, CCTV cameras were introduced for this year’s fair,” said Ms Lonia Nghuulikwa, the convener for marketing and publicity subcommittee.
“Discussions are also underway with Telecommunication service providers to introduce Wi-Fi hotspots around the trade fair.
“Another new feature for this year is the improved exhibition area which has been interlocked.”
Nghuulikwa also mentioned that there will be a “tech hub conference that will bring new dimensions to the trade fair, as well as the ‘Oxungi night’.
“On the entertainment side the most prominent new feature is the re-introduction of the Miss OATF.”
While in 2022 the OATF had 367 exhibitors, 18 of which were international, and in 2023 the total number of exhibitors rose to 455, including 15 international exhibitors, this year’s edition will see 457 exhibitors showcasing their products and services, with 17 international exhibitors representing countries such as Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Japan South Africa, and Indonesia.
Entry fees into the fair centre remain unchanged. “With adults paying N$25, children N$15 and vehicles paying N$15. There will also be an event booklet with 14 pages which will cost N$240,” Nghuulikwa pointed out.
Nghuulikwa also stated that: “These fees were decided on considering the fact that the OATF is not a for-profit-making organization.”
“We are thrilled to welcome visitors to this year’s Trade Fair, where we proudly blend the rich traditions of Ongwediva with cutting-edge innovations,” said Mr Evat Kandongo, the deputy chairperson of the OATF.
“This event is not just an exhibition, but a celebration of our community’s resilience, creativity, and forward-thinking spirit.”
This year’s OATF will be convened under the theme: “Bridging Tradition and Innovation.”
