The Old Mutual Foundation’s Little Green Ambassadors Initiative has once again inspired schools across Namibia to take action in creating greener, more sustainable learning environments.
Launched in October 2023, this initiative empowers young learners to cultivate fruit-bearing trees and vegetable gardens, fostering environmental stewardship and food security within their communities.
After months of dedication, the Foundation announced the Top 5 Schools that demonstrated outstanding commitment to nurturing their green spaces.
At the top was Moreson Special School in Khomas, which was awarded N$40 000.
In second place was Ariamsvlei Primary School in //Kharas, which received N$30 000, while in third place was D.D Guibeb Primary School in Hardap, which got N$20 000, and Ben van Der Walt Primary School in Omaheke, getting N$10 000, while Wilhelm Nortier Primary School in Otjozondjupa got N$5 000 for their efforts.
The Foundation said that these schools showcased remarkable growth in their gardens and engaged their learners in environmental awareness activities. Their efforts will thus be rewarded with a share of the N$105 000 prize money to further develop their school gardens as sustainable projects.
Patricia Olivier, Chairperson of the Old Mutual Foundation, shared her enthusiasm for the initiative, saying “The Old Mutual Foundation is committed to driving positive change in our communities, focusing on education, sustainability, and empowerment.
“Our mission is to inspire future generations to take active roles in the preservation of our environment while equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a difference. I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved in making this initiative possible.
“Your commitment to sustainability and community development is truly inspiring.
“Together, let’s make a lasting impact for our environment and future generations.
“As we celebrate these achievements, the Old Mutual Foundation remains committed to building a greener, more sustainable Namibia, one school at a time!”
