Oshana Region held today its regional readathon activities as well as celebrating the 10th anniversary of the regional library.

The event held at the Oshana Regional Library open ground did not attract many participants, but a few schools took part in the activities which included a reading competition and a spelling competition by primary school learners.

The event was held under two themes: “Read Namibia: Discovering the strength of Arts and Culture through Reading” and “Celebrating a Decade of Literacy and Information Dissemination towards a Knowledge-based Society”.

Mr Jakob Muleka, the Chief Librarian, gave a brief background of the regional libraries, while Ms Helena Amuthitu, the deputy director for human resources at the Oshana Regional Council, gave a motivational speech and brief remarks on the importance of reading.

Other than performances by local artists such as Wesley and Chika of the Cool Family, as well as the cultural performance by Oshakati West Primary School, it was Ehenye Primary School which stole the day with their drama performance on the power of reading.
