The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has unveiled the winners of its inaugural CRAN Tech Challenge, marking a powerful milestone in showcasing the country’s brightest young innovators.
Launched on 20 October 2025, the initiative is designed to empower Namibian youth by sparking innovation, advancing digital inclusion and inspiring the creation of technology solutions that can drive meaningful national development.
The Tech Challenge called on Namibian citizens and permanent residents aged 18 to 35 to submit prototype or operational stage solutions in AgriTech, HealthTech and the gig economy.
And 110 entries were received, showcasing the creativity, drive and forward thinking of young innovators determined to shape Namibia’s digital transformation.
Mr. Jairus Kapenda, the Manager for Communication and International Relations at CRAN, emphasised the Authority’s commitment to nurturing a vibrant digital ecosystem.
“Through the Tech Challenge, CRAN is cultivating a space where ideas can grow into impactful solutions that advance digital inclusion and support underserved communities, by celebrating the innovative spirit of Namibia’s youth,” he said.
In addition, Mr. Elton Witbooi, the Executive for ICT, reaffirmed the organisation’s dedication to investing in young innovators and accelerating national development through technology.
“The ingenuity of our young people is central to shaping Namibia’s digital future,” Witbooi remarked.
“This Tech Challenge is more than a competition. It is an investment in ideas that can transform our economy and enhance service delivery across critical sectors.”
After a competitive pitch session, the first place, valued at N$50 000, was awarded to YYeni AI, an education technology startup that has demonstrated how Artificial Intelligence can effectively address one of the sector’s most pressing challenges.
Second place, worth N$30 000, went to PatientCare for its well-developed health wallet designed to tackle Africa’s uninsured crisis through prepaid doctors and medical credits.
Third place, valued at N$20 000, was awarded to GovRecruit Namibia, a comprehensive application tracking and recruitment management platform that acts as a central system for public sector hiring and highlights the benefits of careers in the public service.
All winning solutions will be showcased across CRAN’s digital platforms, offering the innovators increased visibility and potential partnership opportunities with public and private sector stakeholders.
Mr. Mufaro Nesongano, CRAN’s Executive for Communication and Consumer Relations, applauded the participants for their dedication emphasising that the young innovators demonstrated the boldness and creativity needed to drive Namibia’s digital future.
CRAN extended its appreciation to all participants, judges, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the Event.
The CRAN Tech Challenge will continue to serve as a platform for discovering and supporting transformative ideas that can advance Namibia’s digital development agenda.
