Look beyond yourself

By Josefina “Ndeshi” Gabriel|

One thing I have realized is that people mostly think of themselves and care for themselves more than they care for others.

We tend to only look for our benefit. If we go to school or we study, we do it for our own benefit. If we work, we work for our benefit. If we get into a relationship, or get married, we do it for our benefit.

Even if we go to church, we do it for our benefit. If we want to go to heaven, we want to go to heaven for our benefit.

And this is why we get so much stressed up every time.

But what if we started to look beyond our benefit? There will be less stress, and the world would be a better place for us all.

Imagine if everyone start to go to work for the benefit of other people, if we work not only to get a salary but to serve the community as well.

Imagine if we go to church, not only to get our own blessings but also to pray for others, to minister to others, and to lead others to the way of salvation.

Imagine if we start to look for the happiness and success of others instead of just our own happiness and success.

If we start to look beyond our own benefit, we will always be happy, successful and fulfilled because to give is to receive.
