Namibia’s power utility, Nampower, has come on board by providing field equipment for use at the Oshakati Pharmacy Track & Field Athletics Championships slated for 23 July this year.

The equipment which include 3 javelins, 2 shotputs, 3 discus, 8 relay batons, 1 measuring tape and 1 megaphone were bought from OTP, a shop that sells sports gear and sport equipment at Oshakati.

The items totaling an amount of N$5,240 came at the right time in readiness for the championships to be held at Oshakati Independence Stadium.

“We normally participate only in track events because we didn’t have field equipment. Now it’s changing. We have everything we need, thanks to Nampower for making this possible,” said Mr Moses Teofelus, marketing and communication manager for Ohangwena Athletics Club.

The Oshakati Pharmacy Track & Field Athletics Championships will be organised under the Ohangwena Athletics Club’s banner, and the one day event will see young local athletes and athletes from as far afield as Gobabis, Mariental, Luderitz, Rundu and Windhoek coming to battle it out for top honors.

Teofelus said that registration for participation at the championships will close on 16 July. “Registration can be done online for those who are far. I can provide a link to anyone who contact me,” he said.

“Even schools can enter. The competition is not only limited to athletics clubs. Circuits, clusters or regions who want to enter as a single team are welcome.”
