In order to grow something, the best way to start is by growing it from the bottom.
This is the approach taken by the organisers of the Oshana Village Based Football League, a third division formation that draws young talent from villages and settlements across the region of Oshana.
The league has nine teams from different constituencies of Oshana.
The chairman of Oshana Village Based Football League (OVBFL) Mr Herman Paulus, better known as Kalimbo, and other eight Exco members are leading the league with little resources but lots of resourcefulness and enthusiasm.
“This league aims to promote teams to the second division of the Oshana Region. Since its establishment in 2006 it promoted 9 teams,” Kalimbo says.
“The likes of Khuse Lions, African United, Oshakati United, Foxy Senior, Onelago United, Young Brave, Brave Lions now called Ongwediva United, Fish Consumption, and African Motto all are now at the first division level after having started at our level.”
Kalimbo adds that OVBFL “adds value to football in the region as many teams are competing for promotion while others are working hard not to be relegated, so the tough soccer is elevating footballing excellence in Oshana region.”
The Oshana Village Based Football League consists of: Golden Stars FC, Mvula FC, Heicky Land Surveyors FC, New York City FC, HP Campus FC, Mokasi FC, Tenacity FC, WE FC, and GK FC.
