The 2023 Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition winner, Ester Silas, has officially opened her fast food business just one month after walking away with the grand prize of the mobile food trailer at the Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off competition final.
The 27-year-old Silas, who is based in the Greenwell Matongo suburb of Katutura, in Windhoek, has stationed her mobile food truck, which is worth N$100 000, at her residence, where she hopes to cater to her community members in the area.
On Saturday, 30 September, Silas officially opened her business, to an attendance made up of friends, family, and community members.
At the opening, Silas said she was excited for this new chapter in her life. “I will work every day, to have a menu which carries a selection of food to cater to people who have different food tastes. As I am still new to the market, I am aware that this will be an intense job. I also plan on hiring someone to assist me on busy days and afterhours,” she says.
She further narrates: “We are a lot in the food business, so I need to push hard to get my name out there. I will employ the use of different channels to market my business to the people.”
Nedbank Namibia Communication and Public Relations Manager, Selma Kaulinge, lauded Silas on taking initiative and starting her own business.
“Ester Silas is truly the definition of a quote which says, ‘Some people dream of success, while other people get up every morning and make it happen’. Seeing her open her business just a month after winning the ninth edition of the Nedbank Kapana Cook-Off Competition, says a lot about the person she is.
“Her determination from the onset of the competition is a story we should all be inspired by. At Nedbank Namibia our purpose, of money experts who do good, is embedded in everything we do, and goes beyond the financial support we render, and also encompasses nurturing dreams and being an enabling growth,” Kaulinge says.
