Orlando Pirates has become the new football giant to fall out of top flight football in Namibia, following in the footsteps of Black Africa who was relegated last season.

Although Windhoek-based clubs continue to dominate in the Debmarine Namibia Premier Football League, with African Stars at the top and winning the league, while the other three Windhoek-based clubs, Ongos FC, Khomas Nampol and Unam FC, in second, third and fourth places respectively, Chula Chula stands in fifth spot on the league, being the only club not based in Windhoek to be in the top five on the logstanding at the close of the 2023/24 season.

Eeshoke Chula Chula’s first campaign in top flight football was thus a remarkable success.

The relegation of Orlando Pirates and the poor performance of Civics FC, who stands at 12th position, is an indication that the old Windhoek-based clubs no longer enjoy the prestige they used to enjoy in the past, and that new clubs such as Khomas Nampol and clubs from outside of Windhoek such as Chula Chula are getting in on the premier league honours which used to be enjoyed exclusively by the likes of Black Africa, Orlando Pirates, Civics, and African Stars.

While African Stars is still a force to be reckoned with, showing its strength by winning the 2023/24 league, it was not a walk in the park as Ongos FC and Khomas Nampol came close on their heels.
