The Ohangwena Athletics Club (OAC) held its inaugural annual award and prize giving ceremony in recognition and celebration of its athletes who excelled during the last 12 months in and outside the country.
The event, which took place at the Multi-Purpose Youth Centre in Eenhana on 20 July, was the first of its kind in the north of the country, which is a testament to the growing talent and exposure of the young athletes under the wings of OAC, a club established in 2021.
All athletes on the books of OAC received certificates and medals of recognition for their talents and for putting Ohangwena Region on the map at all competitions in the country as well as putting Namibia on the map every time they competed outside the country.
Some athletes however received special awards for their outstanding performances during the 2023/24 year.
Those who received special awards included Esmelda Bonita Pena who was named the Young Female Athlete of the Year, and Talatan Mwashindange as the Young Male Athlete of the Year.
Elizabeth Kalola, was the Female Athlete of the Year, while Erastus Jonas Joseph was the Male Athlete of the Year.
Konga Micro Finance received the Sponsor of the Year Award.
