In a final push to revive the Namibia Music Awards (NAMA) the MTC has announced the transfer of all copyright, intellectual, audio, and visual material associated with the Namibian Annual Music Awards to the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), marking a significant milestone in the continued evolution of the prestigious initiative.
MTC, in partnership with NBC, supported the Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMA) as the headline sponsor for a decade, playing a pivotal role in elevating the platform into one of the country’s and the continent’s most respected celebrations of musical excellence.
Since the conclusion of its sponsorship in 2019, MTC has remained committed to the growth and sustainability of the local creative industry.
In a statement MTC said that the formal handover underscores MTC’s enduring commitment to preserving and advancing Namibia’s cultural and artistic heritage.
By transferring all associated intellectual property and archival materials, MTC aims to ensure continuity, accessibility, and future development of the awards under public stewardship.
“MTC is immensely proud of the role we have played in shaping and growing the Namibian Annual Music Awards over the years,” said Tim Ekandjo, Chief Brand, Marketing, Communication and Sustainability Officer at MTC.
“Our decade-long sponsorship helped create a powerful platform for artists, and we are delighted to see the awards enter a new and exciting phase under the leadership of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
“MTC and its co-sponsors have invested over N$100 million over a period of 10 years, and today we hand over a brand name called the NAMAs that is worth over N$400 million.”
The MEIYSAC recently announced that it will assume full responsibility for the awards from now on, ushering in a new chapter aimed at strengthening the institutional support for the creative sector and broadening the awards’ national and international impact.
MTC expressed confidence that the Ministry’s stewardship will build on the strong foundation established over the years, ensuring the continued recognition and promotion of musical talent across the country.
“We are encouraged by the Ministry’s commitment to advancing the arts and culture landscape,” added Ekandjo.
“This transition reflects a shared vision of empowering artists and preserving Namibia’s rich musical legacy for generations to come.”
Ekandjo stated that “MTC extends its gratitude to all artists, partners, and stakeholders who contributed to the success of the Namibian Annual Music Awards during its tenure as sponsor and looks forward to witnessing the awards’ continued growth in the years ahead.”
