Prime Minister Elijah Ngurare last on Friday inaugurated the new regional office in Ondangwa.
Dr. Ngurare described the investment as a practical demonstration of decentralised service delivery and Government’s commitment to strengthening public institutions.
Representing an investment of N$99.4 million, the facility will provide improved access to services for members, pensioners, annuitants, beneficiaries and stakeholders across northern Namibia.
The project also created 42 employment opportunities during the construction phase and is expected to generate further jobs through operational support services.
Designed to serve as more than a GIPF office, the modern building includes additional office space that can accommodate other public institutions and service providers, creating opportunities for government entities such as ministries and agencies to bring services closer to communities in the region.
This integrated approach supports Government’s objective of improving public service accessibility and convenience for citizens.
Welcoming the development, Mr Abraham Kaushiweni, Regional Councillor for Ondangwa Rural and Chairperson of the Oshana Regional Council, said the facility would enhance service accessibility and contribute to local economic growth.
“This modern facility is a significant investment in Ondangwa and reflects GIPF’s commitment to bringing essential services closer to its members,” said Kaushiweni.
“Beyond improving access to pension services, the project has contributed to local economic activity, created employment opportunities and reinforces Ondangwa’s position as a key commercial and development hub in northern Namibia.”
Speaking at the inauguration, Dr. Elijah Ngurare said “the inauguration of this office represents more than a regional milestone. It symbolises confidence in our people, confidence in decentralised service delivery, and confidence in the future of Northern Namibia.”
He further commended GIPF for safeguarding retirement savings while contributing meaningfully to national development goals through strategic investments.
The Prime Minister highlighted that GIPF manages approximately N$223 billion in assets, serves around 115,000 active members and provides income security to approximately 58,400 pensioners and annuitants nationwide.
He noted that the Fund has invested more than N$466 million in the Oshana Region across sectors such as housing, education, energy, and enterprise development.
“The office space and building houses a state-of-the-art data centre to ensure that the integrity of the information entrusted to the GIPF remains secure, accurate, and protected at all times,” said Penda Ithindi, Chairperson of the GIPF Board of Trustees.
He added that the design concept of the GIPF Ondangwa Regional Office is based on the image of “a person with open arms”, reflecting GIPF’s member-centric approach and the employees’ commitment to service excellence, attention to detail, and dedication to serving the Funds members.
Martin Inkumbi, Chief Executive Officer of GIPF, said the office reflects the Fund’s commitment to ensuring quality pension services remain accessible to all members.
Inkumbi said “this office is more than a physical structure. It represents our promise to bring quality services closer to our members, pensioners, annuitants and beneficiaries while strengthening our presence within the communities we serve.”
