Ms Jualiana Haimbodi was today elected to serve as the chairperson of the management committee for Ongwediva Town Council, with Priskila Hailulu and Jason Mwalengwa as ordinary members of the management committee.
This followed the swearing-in of new councillors to serve the town for the next five years following the regional and local authorities elections which took place on 26 November 2025.
At the same occasion, the Town Council of Ongwediva elected Ms Naemi Amuthenu to serve as the new town mayor, deputised by Mr Jeremia Amutenya.
Only Amuthenu (of Swapo) and Mr Jona Helao (of IPC) had served as councillors for the five years of the previous council, while the rest of the councillors sworn-in today by Oshakati district magistrate Mr Siegfried Geiseb are new faces.
They are Priskila Hailulu, Jason Mwalengwa, Jeremia Amutenya, Frondina Kemanya, and Juliana Haimbodi.
“My task as chairperson, together with other members of the management committee, will be to ensure that economic development is accelerated and opportunities are within reach for all,” said Haimbodi during her acceptance speech.
“I will endeavour to lead with accountability, transparency and integrity. Effective governance is a collective effort. We will work closely with the business sector, recognising that a thriving local economy is a must for job creation and sustainable development.
“Together with entrepreneurs, investors, SMEs and the corporate community we will foster an environment by supporting growth, innovation and fair participation.
“To the youth of Ongwediva, your creativity, energy and resilience will continue to inspire us. We will prioritise efforts that enhance skills, promote entrepreneurship, and expand opportunities in the modern economy.
“To our residents, your voices matter, and our doors will remain open because leadership requires the input of all. I pledge to be a servant leader, one who listens, consults and acts. One who rises above personal interests in pursuit of the greater good of our town.
“Let’s look forward with a shared purpose and unwavering spirit of unity and determination to make Ongwediva progress and create inclusive development.
“Together we will build the Ongwediva we envision, prosperous, innovative and a home to opportunities for every resident.”
